This blog is not a cop out- we all know I'm pretty good at keeping in touch and at keeping people up to date with life in general. It's a way for me to document this trip and the experiences along the way. I am writing in a journal Gloria gave me and then transferring it onto here. I made a bet with a friend before leaving and I won: I did NOT cry at the airport. I did however cry on the plane when I read the book that Lauren made people write in at the party.
There have been quite a few ups and downs this past week. This being my first time away from home for an extended period of time, I miss my friends and family terribly. I am more homesick than I thought I would be. I have been able to Face Time/text with some of them and it has helped. The family I am staying with has been so hospitable and I know I am extremely lucky to have their support here. They have gone out of their way to make me feel at home. The teacher, Vi and her husband have helped me with everything from starting a bank account to figuring out the bus schedule. They are even driving me to Ikea to pick up a few things. I have been spoiled by them as they cook every night and the food is so yummy. On Sunday I move to an apartment in the heart of Cannes with another assistant from the States. It's a 5 minute walk to the beach and I am really looking forward to it although I will miss this family.
Today was my first day at the school. The students had SO many questions to ask me. They are very nice and extremely curious. I look forward to interacting with them more in the following weeks. The school reminds me of Vidyaranya (my school) in Hyderabad with it's open hallways and balconies. The teachers are also very friendly.
This week has been exhausting. It's 9:40 pm and I'm already in bed. I'm going to catch up on some American television to comfort myself and to help with the homesickness. I miss Atlanta and everyone there a lot! Thanks to Ash, Appa, and all my friends that have been sending me texts/emails/messages to make me feel better. I will try to be more cheerful! A bientôt!
PS: I promise I will be doing better by the time of my next post and have pictures.
